MURPHEY, Chuck and Jocelyn

Americas

Chuck and Jocelyn Murphey work for Wycliffe Bible Translators of Canada as linguistics specialists and are based in Langley, BC. Linguistics is very important for Bible translation, as it ensures good, accurate translations of the Bible for the communities that need the Gospel in the language they understand best. It also provides important resources for community language development, such as literacy materials and health information.

Chuck and Jocelyn have two main roles with Wycliffe Canada: the first is to support the Canada Institute of Linguistics (CanIL) in teaching and administration. This school trains Bible translation workers to serve language communities all over the world that need the Gospel in their language. The second is to serve First Nations in Canada by supporting community initiated language revitalization and Bible translation. They currently serve the Kwak’wala Bible translation project on Vancouver Island and seek to respond to invitations from other First Nations in BC and across Canada as these communities pursue their language and translation goals.
